as much as i love this sight, there are two many young people, is there a sight with people that know what's real?

Post 2 by Godzilla-On-Toast (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Friday, 29-Apr-2005 3:26:35

I wish I knew. I've come to the conclusion that most people would rather be idealistic than realists. Realism must have this bad rap of being all cold and hard and such, which isn't the case. I guess for me, I'm more interested in pointing out things as they really truly are, especially if it's not popular to say so, instead of going on about the way things ought to be or playing games of 20 hypothetical questions. LOL!

And what's wrong with so many young people? Everyone is idealistic in their youth, even you were I'n sure. We learn about the real things in life and the many problems of the world as we grow older and experience more. We can also learn about them by talking to others who've been around longer than I have, which is one of the reasons why I like this site so much. There are so many people on here from diverse backgrounds, countries, and of course, ages. The older people can tell the younger people what to expect as they grow and what the world is really like.

There is a world called the real world it is full of real people, tis site is a bit of an escape from that real world .. if you prefer the real world, feel free to enjoy it and not the site, but take the site for what it is.

when you tell people how things really are they're invariably unable to cope with the brutality of the situation and stomp off in a huff...

Just take it with a grain of salt. I guess it is up to you who is real or not. If you find some one who is unreal, then my suggestion would be not to associate with those kinds of people.

Um, you think young people aren't real and don't know what's real? It's not a question of age, but a question of maturity.

Post 10 by chelslicious (like it or not, I'm gonna say what I mean. all the time.) on Friday, 29-Apr-2005 16:28:40

age doesnt matter, its maturity that does. i dont see anything wrong with young people at all, but thats just me.

I totally agree with you, Love4all.

Real compared to what?

Post 13 by Jess227 on Sunday, 01-May-2005 2:27:08

Yup I consider this a escape from the real world. The real world isn't always nice and easy, especially when things don't go your way as planned. Especially if you had a bad day and want to unwind. There are many people with many backgrounds and ages, and if you don't like whats said don't come back. But I enjoy this place for the warm atmosphere and I keep coming back for more :) weather it be the community or the games. There's something for eveyrone.

It's foolish to believe that people stop being ideolistic at certain ages, and it's ideas which change reality. I agree with Love For All and Innesle.

Everyone can make up a life and stop being real, no matter what age he/she is.

Hi Zenter,
Well, in a way, I understand how you feel, being 46 myself, and being the oldest poster on here, well mostly the oldest person, most of the time. I don't think it's a matter of their being too many younger people, Imean, for one thing, this site was created by younger people mostly for younger people, although they don't discrimnate against us older people, I sometimes don't really feel the boards are that much for older people. I think it's a question of their not being enough older people, to balance things out. Nothing wrong with being younger or older, they can't help they're younger, and we can't help being older, that's just the way it is. We all grow out of being young soon enough, though in heart and mind, I haven't really grown up, just older. If you're looking for a sight where there are older people, I suggest eyes2eyes, there's a message boards system caled e-pals. 99 percent of the people there are very nice and easy to talk to, it just needs more people to join in and post. There are at least one topic or so that I can't post here, because of the vast age difference between me and most of thesight. I keep waiting for more older people to come on this sight, but looks like it's not happening any time soon. I'm beginning to think never.I don't think age matters all the time, just sometimes.Lest someone think I'm mad or rating just because I'm replying to this topic on the rant board, I'm not, I'm just stating a fact. For some reason, there just aren't as many older people on the net as there are younger ones, I don't know why. Anyway, nice to meet you, I don't think I've seen your posts before.

I think a lot of the reasons why these particular types of websites seem to atract more of the younger generation is because computers is what the younger generation have grown up with. A lot of older people, and this is by no means anything against older people, but a lot of them either are not used to computers or are technophobes, or surfing the internet just isn't their thing. I'm sure in 30 years from now, the next generation will have something that we all say "it wasn't there in my day".

hey good point SB! :) never thought of that! :)

Post 19 by wonderwoman (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Wednesday, 04-May-2005 19:08:12

Hi Sugar baby and rdfreak,
Well, most older people aren't technically inclined, I'm not by any stretch of the imagination. Almost 99 percent of the time, if I can't get a program to work, or my computer acts up in strange ways I don't understand, I'm in the position of having to ask people younger than I am for assistance. It's not always the comfortable thing for me, but often I don't have any choice.

it's like that with everyone though. I'm 31 and don't consider myself to be the older generation as such because I too pretty much grew up with computers, not quite to the extent kids do now, but they were about. But now the 16 year olds know more about computing than i ever will.

Post 21 by wonderwoman (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Thursday, 05-May-2005 19:14:18

I know how that feels. I don't feel comfortable posting on the geeks for us board, because even when someone does have a good sensible answer for why my computer acts and does a certain way, they have to make some remark about how there's no need to obsess about it, when all I did was ask something I didn't know.

Post 22 by louiano (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Sunday, 08-May-2005 14:28:08

well, the boards are for helping other aren't they? hmm, I would help anyone no mater what question they ask because I know how it feels like to ask a really simple question and not being answered back because the experts say it is so obbious... don't worry, it happens with my english too, sometimes in calss I have to either ask my teachers or my classmates for a word but fortunately they understand that as I am hispanic and don't know pretty much english well I need help with that... back to the topic... hmm, real what? I mean, what do you think is real? what is real to you? I think its also a question of maturity...and also agree with love4all. A kid could decide to be an adult and an adult could decide to drug him or herself and act like a kid, so there ya go... at least thats all I can say and at least thats how I do understand this question...

Post 23 by Inesle1987 (Account disabled) on Sunday, 08-May-2005 16:29:20

Yeah, same here. And, I try to be as real as possible, I did it when I was younger and I'll still try when I'm older.

Post 24 by wonderwoman (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Friday, 13-May-2005 18:59:21

Thanks Lou, maybe from now on, I should address all my computer questions to you. I've always stated, and I don't mind saying it again, if a computer problem is vexing you, best ask a child, especially if you're in the boat I'm in, and don't have anyone in your age range to ask, because kids like helping people. I'd rather ask a 12 or 13 year old than I would some who are in their 20's.

I think some of the "not realness" (note the quotes!), is that some of us need an escape. Life can be difficult. Also, reality is different for everyone.
